Were are all the birds going?
Oil and mixed media on canvas.
101 X 101 cm \ 2024 \ Sold

This painting serves as a haunting reflection of the day before Cyclone Tracy struck on Christmas Eve 1974. The painting captures the ominous beauty and emotional turbulence of the days before cyclone Tracy that I experienced as a teenager growing up in Darwin Australia. Through swirling colours and contrasting textures, my painting evokes the heavy atmosphere that enveloped the sky—a deceptive calm before the chaos.

In creating this piece, I was not only reflecting on the physical manifestation of the storm, but also on the psychological impact it had on those who lived through it. The weight of uncertainty and the collective anxiety felt by the community resonated deeply within me. Through this work I hope to evoke a visceral response in the viewer, prompting them to confront their own fears and the fragility of peace, even in the most joyful moments

These three pieces capture the duality of fire: its capacity to burn and to cleanse, to take and to give.

In these flames, the raw and transformative force of nature is brought to life through vibrant streaks of molten crimson, amber, and gold. Each flicker, each lick of flame, dances with both destruction and renewal — a reminder that endings are often the beginning of something new. The glowing embers hum with latent energy, whispering of ancient cycles where the old is consumed so the earth may be reborn.

Fire has rich and varied symbolic meanings across cultures, often representing both destruction and renewal, reflecting the dual nature of the element.

By combining the elemental forces of fire with mixed media techniques, these works create a powerful visual representation of its many facets, from its destructive force to its life-giving and illuminating qualities.

Fault Line Bloom
Oil and mixed media on canvas.
75 X 75 cm \ 2026 \ $550

A flower emerges from fractured earth as molten light forces its way through the fault. Suspended between destruction and renewal, the bloom marks the moment when environmental thresholds are crossed and transformation becomes irreversible. Beauty appears not despite the rupture, but because of it.

The Old Shed
Pastel.
75 X 75 cm \ 2024 \ $550

This pastel painting captures the quiet charm of a rural landscape, where a weathered shed sits beneath the sheltering branches of a willow tree. Rich, expressive colour and layered textures bring warmth and vitality to the scene, celebrating the beauty and simplicity of country life. The work evokes a sense of nostalgia, tranquillity, and connection to the land.

Ash Line Bloom
Oil and mixed media on canvas.
75 X 75cm \ 2026 \ $550

In a landscape scorched past recovery, a single tree takes hold in unstable ground. Exposed roots search through ash and heat, holding life in place where collapse has already occurred. The work reflects the fragile persistence of ecosystems beyond the brink — survival not as triumph, but as necessity.

Morning Bushland Light
Oil and mixed media on canvas.
75 X 55cm \ 2024 \ $550

Golden sunlight streams through the trees, illuminating the forest floor with warmth and colour. Expressive brushwork and vibrant layers of green, gold, and turquoise capture the energy of the bush and the ever-changing play of light within nature. This painting celebrates moments of wonder found in the landscape, inviting the viewer to step into a place of renewal, tranquillity, and connection.
